Susan O’Brien, MD is the Associate Director for Clinical Science at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Medical Director of the Sue and Ralph Stern Center for Cancer Clinical Trials and Research, and is Professor of Medicine at UC Irvine.
Dr. O’Brien is an internationally recognized leader in the research of treatments for both chronic and acute leukemias and an acknowledged expert on several important treatments that are presently used as the standard of care for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). She has been intimately involved with clinical research that has led to many key discoveries which have advanced the understanding and treatment of the disease. Dr. O’Brien is involved with multiple professional organizations such as the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Association of Cancer Research. She is the Hematology member of the SWOG Executive Committee. She is section editor for the Cancer journal and has authored and co-authored over 800 peer-reviewed articles published in New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, Cancer, Cancer Research, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and other journals.
